Periodontist New York City
Cosmetic periodontal procedures are a conventional way to cover unsightly, sensitive, or exposed root surfaces and to prevent future gum recession. If you are unhappy with the appearance of short, unsightly teeth this can be greatly improved by a combination of periodontal procedures by Dr. Lehrman and cosmetic dentistry by your dentist.
Your first appointment is key – it will help us assess your condition as well as provide a forum for discussing your needs. What should you expect? A thoughtful, humanizing experience that leads to an intelligent course of treatment and a beautiful smile.
During this visit, we will perform an oral examination and a series of diagnostics such as digital radiographs and photographs of your jaws and teeth. These records will help us diagnose any periodontal issues and lead us into a discussion about treatment options.

Dr. Lehrman reviewed the current climate in which we as clinicians are confronted not only with failing but also ailing dental implants. A thorough review of the science behind the remarkable LAPIP ™ procedure was explained . Clinical cases were discussed and special attention was paid the idea that soft tissue healing holds as much information for the overall success of dental implants then to counterpart, peri-implant bone. By discussing a procedure which allows for targeted removal of diseased tissue, Dr. Lehrman showed the attendees a viable approach to this fast growing dental implant epidemic, albeit one that caries with it low morbidity and excellent chances for regeneration.

In just one decade, we have moved from utilizing lasers to treat periodontal diseases to utilizing a specific laser protocol to hone our approach in the treatment of peri-implantitis, MRONJ and now cosmetic de-pigmentation of gingiva.
By adapting the wound healing modification of the Periolase laser and the LANAP protocol, Dr. Lehrman discussed how the specific ND:YAG wavelength allows the clinician to modify the body’s own wound healing apparatus. Diseased or unwanted tissues are targeted for specific removal, while healthy connective tissue remains and allows the body to capitalize on this healing moment. Dr. Neal Lehrman, through a discussion of both laser physics and case review, demonstrated the ability of this remarkable protocol and its corollary procedures to the Department of Periodontics – Post-Graduate Division, NYU College of Dentistry.
