LANAP Laser Periodontal Procedures New York City
Dr. Lehrman is Publisher and Editor, along with his colleague Dr. Lawrence B. Gelb, of The Wavelength at www.thewavelength.org, an online case reports journal. This publication will help usher in a new era of collaborative dentistry by bringing together both clinicians and patients alike into a marketplace of ideas dedicated to the discussion of and advancement of Laser Periodontal Therapy (LANAP-Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure) and its related procedures.
What is LANAP?
LANAP stands for Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure. The first and only FDA cleared laser gum surgery to treat gum disease that is backed by both clinical and laboratory research.
This remarkable surgical protocol allows for targeted removal of diseased gum tissue, while leaving your body’s own healthy tissues intact. In this way, LANAP allows for an environment where you can actually heal yourself!

Call Today Contact UsTraditional gum surgery utilizes scalpels and sutures (stitches) to cut away diseased or infected gum tissues, often time resulting in esthetic and exposed root surfaces. This type of surgery, while proven to work in many situations, can leave patients with sensitivity, phonetic and root caries (decay). With LANAP, there is no loss of tissue volume, and because there is no “cutting or sewing” patients can in many cases go straight back to work or continue with their normal routine. Depending on the severity of your gum disease, your whole mouth can be treated in only one visit, with little to no downtime.
Scientific research has shown connections between gum disease and heart disease, diabetes and pre-term low birth weight babies. With many patients taking more and more medications, particularly aspirin or other anti-coagulants such as coumadin or Plavix, in order to have gum disease treated they are required to stop these crucial medications for up to a week before surgery. One of the most beneficial aspects of LANAP/LAPIP, is that one never has to stop these medications, as the laser creates such complete healing, that there is no concern about any excess post-operative bleeding. This is an amazing advancement that is helping thousands of people every day.

The doctor talked and he explained the procedure very well, and put me at ease. I felt like I have a new freind, not just a Dentist.

I first came to Laser Periodontal with advanced pockets of gum disease and several loose teeth. My treatment plan required laser treatment for my entire mouth. Having been a lifelong, chronic if you will, dental / periodontal patient I thought "here I go again might as well just do this and hope for the best". Thankfully this treatment was quite different thanks to the expert and professional treatment I received from Dr,Lehrman at Laser Periodontal, not only was the gum disease reversed , the loose teeth have tightened up and for the first time in years my mouth does not feel like a dust bowl. It is simply an understatement to say my gums and mouth has been refreshed and returned to good health. The term expert is often overused but that certainly is not the case when describing Dr. Lehrman, he is a leader in this laser periodontal field and is extremely skilled at applying his expertise to a patients care. And although it is strange to add this as a footnote his professional qualities aside, it is really a nice change to receive care from a compassionate and caring person who always puts his patients comfort and care first.

I received a diagnosis from another traditional periodontist that I needed surgery in 3 places and multiple cleaning visits, probably 5-6 hour-long visits in total. Desiring a second opinion I was introduced to Dr. Lehrman who thought my issues could be solved with a single LANAP procedure. The procedure took 15-20 minutes, was relatively painless and I experienced mild discomfort in the affected area for only around 24 hours. Dr. Lehrman followed up with me over the first 2 days to ensure I was recovering properly. It has only been a week, but the affected area looks greatly improved, and time will only tell whether bone mass will reemerge. I would recommend Dr. Lehrman. He is highly accessible, very communicative (with a good sense of humor), experienced, skilled, attentive and genuinely cares about my well being.
